When you look at works by Abstract Expressionist greats like Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, what do you think? From all accounts, their abstract works were a direct reflection of the times they lived in, post-World War II destruction, where “realism” was no longer whole, peachy, beautiful bodies, but war, starvation, and despair. If their works tell us something about 1940′s/1950′s NYC, what does “Interactive Robotic Painting Machine” tell us about 2011? Reacting to environmental noises, including suggestions and critiques from it’s creator, this machine paints abstract portraits of it’s surroundings and auditory experience of the world.
